From the Pastor
Greetings to One and All,
Here we are and it is
beginning a New Year, 2008. Our celebration of 2007 seemed so short and yet we
have much to be thankful for. While we mourn the recent loses of Lindell Gough
and Jan Dickson, we are assured that their lives have been blessed by the
presence of God. We also have been blessed, beyond measure and bear witness to
a gracious spirit that has continued to bless each of us daily.
We may also find that our
journey of discipleship leads us to engage in forms of ministry that are beyond
what we may have originally envisioned. Following God’s light leads us into new
places. The encounters we have daily are
markers of your journey thus making it possible to measure and reflect upon the
path of your discipleship. This is not for thrashing and lashing, rather for
praise and prayer; seeking to know the path that each may follow.
As we approach the sacrament
of the Lord’s Supper, we may feel encompassed by darkness. However, the
sacrament provides a path to reconciliation with the Divine if we will “Follow
the Light.” Every day is a wonderful day
to invite those seeking to follow the example of Jesus and make a commitment
with God to enter the waters of baptism. While we encourage baptism, it is not
required to partake of the sacrament, or to worship in this community of faith.
We are also called to
courageously risk in advocating for justice. On any or every day when we hold
up racial justice, or seek justice of any kind, it is important to follow the
model of the Christ—to live a life in the pursuit of justice for everyone, made
possible through the gift of the Holy Spirit. The search for justice requires
us to look beyond our own comfort. It is as if the plight of the people
disturbs us within and amidst our enjoyment. There can be a thousand eyes
looking at us through which poverty and distress are seen throughout the world.
It cannot be brushed away and make it appear as though there is nothing we can
do. We must ask what can I (we) do in the face of such realities? Who can
assist us in our journey? With the passing of advent it is the Christ that
makes us whole.
May you be blessed each day
as you go forward finding peace, loving wastefully, hoping graciously, and
giving joyfully is my prayer.
Grace and peace,
David
A. Jones III (Sam)

Women’s Meeting – Jan. 31st
The next Women’s meeting will be Thursday, January 31st at 6:00 p.m. at Cheryl Kelley's home. She will provide supper, dessert and drinks. Bring a Christmas “reject” which you probably would never use or something you already have that you have never used or probably never will. Wrap or bag it, and we will play a version of our Santa Game we played at the December meeting. Any questions or need a ride, call Cheryl.
